As a result of feedback from schools, over the Easter holidays our Civica support team have made changes to the Inspections associated with fire drills. Fire drills will now be asked for termly which means you will need to enact and report 3 drills over each academic year. These inspections will be shown as below in the system:

Fire Drill – Spring Term
Fire Drill – Summer Term
Fire Drill – Autumn Term

Use the F10 Fire Forms to record the specifics, retain appropriate records and then record an acknowledgement the fire drill has taken place on the Civica Inspection. When carrying out a drill, think about the time of day it occurs and choosing a different time for the drill. For example, why not activate the call point during assembly or at lunchtime, when the pupils are not situated in their classrooms? It is also good practice to ‘block’ a door (a fire warden can do this) so that staff and pupils are forced to use different exits.

After the drill, a quick discussion is useful to make sure all staff are aware of their duties which are outlined in the school’s Fire Emergency Evacuation Procedure (FEEP template) and the effectiveness of any Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP template) that may be in place.
