A new, comprehensive inspection checklist is now available to support Governors in monitoring and reviewing health and safety standards across your school site and allows your H&S Governor to:
- Systematically review key areas such as H&S management systems, fire safety, first aid, asbestos, legionella, housekeeping, tools and equipment, welfare facilities, DSE (Display Screen Equipment), and external areas.
- Record findings, actions, and follow-up requirements at each monitoring visit.
- Ensure compliance with statutory duties and best practice, as outlined in the H&S Responsibilities and Powers document.
The “Responsibilities and Powers” document clarifies the statutory duties of employers, Governors, Headteachers, and staff in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of everyone on the school site or involved in off-site activities. Governors play a vital role in:
- Overseeing the effective management of health and safety.
- Conducting regular monitoring and inspections.
- Supporting the implementation of policies and remedial actions which may arise from your:
- Fire risk assessment
- Legionella risk assessment
- H&S Audit
