The Corporate Health and Safety Unit provide a comprehensive suite of Health and Safety training courses for managers and employees. These courses are designed to support employees in their roles, across Somerset Council.

The below training manual details health and safety training courses delivered and/or managed by the H&S team. The training manual may not necessarily address all health and safety training requirements across the council as service areas are required to identify when additional external training may be necessary to manage specific operational risks relevant to the activities of the service. For example, moving and handling of people, face fit testing, First Aid, use of portable aluminium tower scaffolds, confined spaces, abrasive wheels, etc.

Courses offered by the safety team can be delivered via the Somerset Council learning management system ‘The Learning Centre’ (e-learning), virtual training delivered by a CHSU officer over MS Teams, and face to face training delivered at one of our corporate premises.
