The future of adult social care is being discussed at a national level, and people in Somerset have a chance to help shape it.
The Independent Commission on Adult Social Care, chaired by Baroness Casey of Blackstock, has launched the Big Conversation on Care, a national engagement exercise designed to gather views from people who draw on care and support, unpaid carers, families, care professionals and the wider public.
As a care provider, you play a vital role in helping the people you support have their voices heard. We are asking providers to encourage participation by sharing information about the conversation with:
- People who use your services
- Their families and/or carers
- Staff teams
- Visitors to your services
The Commission wants to hear a wide range of experiences and perspectives to help inform its work on the future of adult social care and what a National Care Service in England could look like. The conversation will explore important questions about who care should be for, how families are supported and how care should be funded in the future.
How providers can help
We would be grateful if you could:
- Share details of the Big Conversation on Care with the people you support and their families and carers.
- Include information in newsletters, emails and resident updates.
- Share the campaign through your social media channels.
- Display the campaign posters and flyers in reception areas, communal lounges, noticeboards and other high-visibility spaces within your care home or service.
- Encourage staff to support conversations with residents who may need help accessing or submitting their views.
The Commission has specifically asked local partners to help spread the word and ensure as many people as possible can take part.
