There has been poor engagement and a low uptake in completing the new Introduction to Risk Assessment training course which was published in April and is available on The Learning Centre (TLC). This course has been designed to support employees who hold responsibilities for completing risk assessments in their respective business areas and should be considered mandatory for all managers. The course will provide a minimum standard of training for learners, helping you understand how to complete a risk assessment and the reasons for doing so.
We are co-ordinating with OD to make this course a mandatory training requirement within TLC for all line managers. However, it’s unlikely this approach will capture all employees who complete risk assessments as part of their role, therefore managers must ensure relevant staff also complete the training.
There is a new risk assessment matrix in the course which most staff may be unfamiliar with. Having reviewed the risk matrix use by each predecessor organisation, we have adopted the risk assessment matrix previously employed by Somerset West and Taunton District Council. Somerset Councils risk assessment policy and B-Safe health and safety management system have been updated to reflect this change.
