Normally the Legionella Risk Assessment (LRA) has a table of the contents to help keep your Legionella folder in order. Sites should be adding the results of their monitoring/testing under the records section, which may be completed by someone at the school or contracted out and all records should be kept for at least 5 years.  There is often amendments section which should be used for recording any changes to the water system and paperwork to show the recommended remedials have been completed or mitigated.

Suggested list of folder contents:

  • Contact details
  • Executive summary
  • Scope and site description
  • Review of systems of control (training & control regime)
  • Recommendations for remedial work
  • Surveys
  • Assets, outlets and temperature survey
  • Schematics
  • Amendments form
  • Records (temperature checks, infrequently used outlet flushing)
  • References and legends

Under the Core Offer, the facilitation of statutory servicing and compliance checks to plant and equipment now includes Legionella Risk Assessments. The formal risk assessment should be completed as follows:

Middle, Secondary and Special Schools – every 3 years
Primary Schools and Pupil Referral Units – every 5 years

Upon receipt of the LRA, attention should be paid to any recommended remedial work such as removing a dead leg pipe and which taps are highlighted as needing weekly flushing and the half-termly temperature checks. Please email property@somerset.gov.uk for your latest LRA if you do not have a printed copy for your folder or if you think you are due a new one.
