The Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) form should be completed for anyone who requires assistance with any aspect of emergency evacuation.
An example of someone needing a PEEP form could be for a pupil who cannot get themselves out of a building unaided in a fire drill or evacuation to escape to a place of safety, such as the fire assembly area. Other issues that can affect the response to an alarm include pupils with sensory impairment and those with mental health issues. Also consider temporary injuries such as a staff member or pupil with a broken leg.
Educational settings should ensure they are familiar with the “Moving and Handling children and young people with mobility needs” from the Occupational Therapy team, before completing a PEEP document.
The completed PEEP form should be held:
• In the child/young person’s individual record
• By the Headteacher (responsible person for fire safety)
• By the Competent person for fire safety at the school or setting
(this may be the responsible person in some schools)
• By the key worker or class teacher
• By the designated assistant
• In the Fire log book/ Fire folder
