We have pulled together key information to help Premises Managers tick off those essential start-of-term tasks to ensure that your site is compliant and ready for the year ahead.
New starters
Headteachers should ensure that all new employees complete and sign a Health & Safety Induction Form within one month of starting employment. The induction form also provides access to other important health and safety resources, including:
- DSE (Display Screen Equipment) Assessment Form (DSE 1)
- Driver Risk Assessment Form
- Relevant health and safety guidance and policies.
Premises and compliance checks
Before the start of term, Premises Managers and Site Staff should:
- Log into Civica and complete any outstanding Annual Returns (Questionnaires).
- Review statutory inspection and maintenance records to ensure they are up to date.
- Check that any actions arising from compliance inspections such as Health and Safety Audits and Fire Risk Assessments are in hand.
- Review the Health & Safety Annual Checklist as a reminder of key responsibilities.
- Use the Premises Checklist for Site Managers and Caretakers to help plan and manage routine site tasks.
Familiarise new site staff with their health and safety responsibilities.
Book training
Courses are bookable via SSE and include:
- Asbestos Awareness
- Premises Management
- External Visit Coordinator (EVC)
F10 Fire Forms and Fire Door training – email scfiresafety@somerset.gov.uk to book.
Little Used Outlets
Remember to flush all water outlets before reopening after the summer break to reduce the risk of Legionella and other waterborne bacteria caused by stagnant water. It is important to manage Little Used Outlets (LUOs), such as spare sinks, outdoor taps and showers, by flushing them weekly and review your Legionella risk assessment.
