The checklist provides a clear, practical overview of the essential tasks required to keep school sites safe, compliant and well maintained throughout the academic year.

This checklist is designed for:

• Site Managers and Caretakers in all Somerset school settings
• Premises Managers overseeing compliance activities
• Headteachers who need oversight of statutory checks
• New staff stepping into premises roles who require a structured task list

It provides clarity on what needs to be monitored daily, weekly, monthly, 6-monthly, termly and annually, supporting consistent management even when staff change or duties are shared within a team.

What the checklist includes

The checklist covers all major areas of site safety, including:

• Site safety and housekeeping
F10 Fire safety checks (daily, weekly, monthly, 6-monthly and termly)
• Security
Legionella controls
• Outdoor area inspections (including playgrounds and external structures)
• Building condition checks, including drainage, roofs and gutters
• Asbestos, portable appliances, and COSHH requirements
• Swimming pool and specialist area checks where applicable

The final section includes blank fields provided so Premises Managers can add their own site‑specific checks alongside the core statutory items.
